Problems:  Real-time support of police officers in the field requires the Bureau to restore critical business processes and data integrity for identification and violation records within 2 hours in the event of a system fault or general disaster.  

Solutions:  Multi-phase project undertaken which included the identification of critical systems, their attendant processes, the development of recovery scripts for those key applications and databases, and deployment of test plan validation exercises.

Results:  Enhanced continuity plans and recovery processes in place; improved prior best effort recovery of 14 hours to 2 hours in exercises. Estimated improvement in officer safety; avoidance of significant expense for third-party recovery services.
